Chilean Deputy Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros and CNS Director Dr. William Potter.

The Chilean government awarded CNS Director William Potter the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins on January 8, 2015, in recognition of his work in the field of disarmament and nonproliferation education. The award, authorized by the President of Chile, is the highest honor conferred on non-Chileans and is of the rank of Grand Officer.

The ceremony was conducted at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with an international conference on “Roads to Nuclear Disarmament.” The  ceremony was hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros and Director General Alfredo Labbe. Among those in attendance were UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane, Secretary-General of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean Luiz Filipe de Macedo Soares, 2015 NPT Review Conference President-designate Ambassador Taous Feroukhi, and Swiss Ambassador Benno Laggner.  Ms. Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova, CNS Director of International Organizations and Nonproliferation, also was present.
