Between the Shield and the Sword: NATO’s Overlooked Missile Defense Dilemma

Seminar with Dr. Tytti Erästö, Roger L. Hale fellow at Ploughshares Fun

Video Seminar: Took place on June 8, 2017, at CNS of MIIS in Monterey.

Dr. Tytti Erästö’s research mostly focuses on U.S./NATO missile defense policy. She has worked extensively on the nuclear diplomacy of the Iran deal, including a PhD thesis on the United Nations Security Council sanctions on Iran.

In addition, Dr. Erästö has written on the WMD-free zone efforts in the Middle East, the nuclear weapons ban treaty negotiations, and the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism.

She was a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, and also served as University Lecturer in International Relations in the Department of Politics at the University of Tampere, Finland. Dr. Erästö is the editor-in-chief of Kosmopolis, a Finnish journal of peace and conflict research and world politics.
